Clip to ScrapBook #1

I found out yesterday that one of my students will be moving across the country next month I'm crazy about him and am really sad he's leaving. Do you do anything special when one of your students leaves during the year? He's not really happy about the move, so I'd like to do something (upbeat!) to show him we love him and will miss him. Any ideas? Thanks!

Not sure what grade level you are but I had a student who moved and I got her an address book and put my address in it and my e-mail...then students added their addresses and e-mails.

Might be a way to keep in touch with the class...if they are old enough

Don't worry! The editors will probably move the post for you!

When one of my students left, I bought an autograph book and secretly had each student write a note for her. We also had a small party for her on her last day. We also got her address and kept in contact with her for the remainder of the year!

An Introduction Book

One year one boy in my class told us he was moving to Brazil. He was so unhappy about it, but he knew he had to move with his family due to his father's job. He tried to be so brave.

Another student came up with the idea of making an Introduction Book. Every student got a page. They planned the book together. One page told his new teacher how talented he was when catching spiders for science bug study. Another page told about how great he was to have as a soccer teammate. Another page teased about how he never ate anything for lunch except a plain bagel with cream cheese. The book turned out beutifully.

I'm not sure if he ever shared the book with his new classmates, but I know he treasured it.

Student Moving

Just about 3 weeks ago I had a student move. I planned a small party for her. We had a snack and the students got to spend time with her. They all adored her.

I had the students make her cards. She opened them at the party. Then I gave her a gift. It was school supplies for her new school. I gave her pencils, erasers, a notebook, a folder, and some stickers. I also gave her a framed photo of the class.

I had a stepmom pull me aside Tues. morning and tell me that her stepson (who only stated in our school and my clas in Sept.) had moved back with his mom. I was in shock. I was beginning to see a real improvement in his behaviour and his reading skills.
I was able to send a card and a few items but we couldn't even say goodbye.
I will have the kids make a card and send it via his stepmom.
