I'm trying to compile ideas for a monkey themed classroom next year. I'd love to hear ideas from others that are currently doing this theme or have done it in the past.
I'm looking for something to do incorporating this theme into my behavior management plan. I don't want to use the monkey idea with the different color bananas because I'm already doing something similar for my job chart. Does anyone have ideas for behavior management and this theme?
I'm very visual, so if you have pictures please share!!
Thanks,
Deb
I was thinking of doing monkeys next year too! I am not sure if I want to do a sufari, rainforest, or just plain monkeys. I'm looking for ideas too, I'll just sit and wait for answers with you.
but at the beginning of this year I made a display that said "Swinging into Second Grade" and had monkeys with each of my students name swinging in a jungle. I got a lot of compliements on it...just an idea
I have the monkey theme this year too. Here are a few thing I did:
Hallway BB; Swinging Into First Grade
Door: Welcome to Our First Grade Jungle
Behavior Board: No Monkeying Around
Word Wall: "Tree" mendous Words
Job Board:
Birthday Board: A Bunch of Birthdays
didn't get to put up Birthday Board or Job Board this year-will definitely do it next year
Student of the Week: Top Banana
Good Work: Banana's About Great Work
Here are a few pictures: will have to attach separately
This post reminds me of a student I have who is obsessed over Monkeys.
I think its a coping strategy, but every time you ask him what he would like to research, write about, read, talk about whatever he always responds Monkeys!
He would go wild if he was in a room full of monkeys!
My school's reading theme for next year is Go Bananas for Books. I am also planning on doing a monkey themed classroom next year. I found a great ABC line that has monkeys/bananas on it (by TREND). I had thought about doing the bananas for the behavior chart. I also thought about trying to find different stickers/clip art to go on the cards I already have to make them fit into my theme. What are you doing for your job chart? I couldn't think of anything for the jobs.

Awww yay! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking about using this theme next year. I'm really excited about it...I have loved monkies ever since I was a child!
I love all the ideas so far and hopefully more keep on coming!
I have been thinking about doing a 'monkey theme' next year for a couple of months now...not a curious george theme...a monkey theme...
I did the monkey theme this year and will do it again next year beccause it was so popular. I posted pics earlier this year. I don't have them with me to post again, but will do so tomorrow or Monday. I made a lot of trees out of different materials and have monkeys hanging everywhere.
On page 8 on this board are my monkey theme pics. I have my reading center, behavior board, job board center table and my door. Maybe it will help you!!!!!
goodluck.
My partner teacher did this last year with her kids and it worked out great. Draw four monkey each with a different face B semi smirk C Sad face D One tear F Crying monkey. Each student has a clothespin (with name or number) they put on thier collar when they enter the classroom.* This is also a great way to take roll* If the clothespin is on them - they have an A. Students get a warning once one rule is broken, second rule broken- move clothespin the the B monkey and so on.
I have a question......The palm tree on your zebra reading table......did you make it yourself or did you buy it from somewhere? If you made it, could you tell me how?
my daughter was in the second grade, her teacher filled one wall with a large branched tree: folliage depicted the season. Hanging from the limbs by their tales were monkeys with each child's name on one. This was her teacher's way of disciplining them, and it is amazing how it worked!! If a child's monkey fell from the tre, he/she could not (go to break, or whatever) participate in something. At the end of the week, if their monkey had been on the tree all week without falling, they were given a prize. I was surprise how important it was for them to keep their monkey on the tree. In fact, it was so successful other teachers used it in different ways: clowns whose large red smiles might turn down instead of up or trains that went off the track.
I was wondering if you could possibly post your classroom pics or email them to me. I couldn't see that you attached them....then again, I'm new here so maybe I just don't know how or where to look. My theme this year will be a jungle theme and I'm always up for more ideas on how to implement the theme.
For a reward party this past year I made monkey cupcakes. I made the cupcakes and had the kids assemble them (they are time consuming when you are making more then 20) They kids were very excited about them. I can't post pictures yet, but here is a site where you can look at something similiar to the ones I made
My rug came from target-found it on clearance Jun or Jul 07 for 6.95 as leafh mentioned they have a new monkey rug for $9.95 but when I went to the Target 1hour away from me they were on sale for $6.95 so I brought another one will put it in front of my closet.
the zebra tables came from Roses 2 years ago on sale for $5 each
the chair and table set was in the class when I got their for the 07-08 school year-they were red and I just covered them to match my theme-I will take the covers off to wash them
Your pictures are adorable it makes me want to change my theme. This will be my first year teaching and I will have a first grade class I have begun purchasing supplies for a bee themed room but since I can't find enough I was thinking about changing to the jungle theme. Thanks for the ideas they look great.
