Hi guys, I'm just trying to find out what afterschool (say, 3pm -7pm) daycare costs for school-aged children. Sitter, center, whatever.
I am seriously thinking of taking an entrepreneurial leap of faith, and starting an afterschool care/tutoring business in my home. I'll call local centers to check their rates, but I thought you guys would be faster with answers...like, tonight!
My son's school charges $400 for the entire school year (3-5:30 p.m.) However, there is not afterschool care the last week of school. The cheapest daycare center that I could find that would pick him up after school charged $75 per week (3-6:30).
At our school extended day program (right on campus) we pay $40 per week for DD. Our church has an after school program. Including pick up at the schools the cost per child is $65 per week. A lot depends upon your area too. We are in Daytona Beach.
Just wanted to mention that you really need to be careful about checking into regulations, both twon/city and state. You don't want to do this and then find out that your local officials don't allow it or that you didn't jump through the right hoops.
For instance, in our state, if you call anything a "camp" you automatically need a nurse on duty at all times, even for a one hour program. (I know you're not doing a camp, but a "cutesy" name would shut you down for not having a nurse.)
I thought I paid a lot for my sitter... $2.50 an hour per child. Boy, I guess I'm lucky!!! So right now I have 2 DD's that go to the sitter everyday so I'm paying $5.00 an hour. I can't imagine paying $9.00.
At my son's private school afterschool care is $50 a week per child. Both before and afterschool care is $60 a week per child. The drop off/pick up times are 6:30 am until school starts & then after school until 6:30 pm. Snow days and no school days are an additional $15 per day.
