I am trying to do the Polka Dot theme. I am including Ladybugs with it, so that I have a little more room to go with it. I compiled a list of most of what I could find on here and some of my own ideas. Please add ideas!! Hopefully this will get our creative juices flowing...
ps. Sorry it is long, but I am too new to put it as an attachment...

Thats all for now, I am going to try to work on my room Friday, so I will try to post some pictures soon. Please do the same.
I love it. After seeing polka dots as a theme the other day, I felt inspired. I just couldn't think of anything that "hit" me. Then the dots came along, and I am so excited. Can I just copy all your ideas? I promise to give you credit!
After summer school is over, I will have more time to think. I'll share what I come up with.
Thank you and please share. Most of them are not my ideas, I just compiled everyone elses ideas off of here and added a few of my own. So copy and add all you like. lol
I just made forms for my DOT Book and I will try to attach them as soon as I make it past New Member status. lol
WOW!!!!! TchnTx's, I LOVE what all you have put together! WOW!!!!! Before reading your post, a friend was thinking polka dots and I found this thread from last year. http://www.proteacher.net/discussion...ad.php?t=48092
You have come up with some wonderful fun ways to do this theme! If you take pictures, be sure to share them with us!
Cindy
Teachntxs,
DJ Inkers has a new bulletin board set that has a cute large ladybug and lots of little ones. I saw it last week at the school supply. It will be precious that you are tying ladybugs in with the dot theme!
Cindy
Thanks girlie! I am going to go try to buy that set today. I bought the little ones, but I am excited about the big one. My dd loved ladybugs when she was little bity, so I am partial to them.
By the way, we could also raise the live ladybugs. My dd had that set at home and loved it. I need to dig it out and order some more ladybugs.
I am think I might go with black and white polka dots with red mixed in, instead of the color dots. idk? I will have to see what the school supply store has.
I recently had sinus/nose surgery and have not been out of the house. lol That is why I have had time to plan away. Now I want to get out and SHOP... lol I go to the dr. today and hope that everything comes off. Then maybe I will get some ideas at the store. lol
Teachntx,
When you mentioned using black and white dots, I immediately thought of Dalmations!
There are just tons of ways to go with this polka dot theme!
You could read the book, Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews. Then give the students ten black stick on dots or give them multi color stick on dots and ask them to create a picture using the dots (as in the book). I have done this and the children love it. I also asked them to write a sentence about their pictures. This is fun first week activitiy that will tell you a lot about each child too!
Cindy
Thanks, I will have to get that book! That is a cute idea.
I did get to go shopping today. I got dot stickers in black and white. They didn't have Black and White polka dot border, so I thought I would put the stickers on the plain border. I got the ladybug set.
The CT Dots on Black is really cute. I almost caved and went with colored dots. lol I am going to try to do the black and white for now though. Walmart did not have any material that I could use. I think they are fazing out their material section.
Anyway, TADA, I can finally attach one thing to a post so here goes...
It might be a better idea to call your 'time out' spot the 'stop spot' rather than the 'hot spot' as this can have connetations for kids who have been misbehaving as being angry or unable to control their behaviour appropriately. By calling it the 'stop spot' you're allowing kids the idea that 'it's time to 'stop' and think about my behaviour'.
Thanks for sharing. I shared this theme idea with a middle school teacher, thought the middle schoolers would relate to it also. She liked it and wants to use it, I will let you know of any new ideas she has.
I've already started collecting stuff for "Bugs and Garden" theme or I would have used it too. (Was going to post for ideas on this theme.)
I was suggesting calling their meeting space, for whole group, the "Hot Spot" as in the place they come for announcements and all the information. I was not talking about a "time out" space.
Just got back from Michaels and they had some of their dollar spot clearanced for .50, included in that was some polka dot stuff. Found some notebooks, small tins(could hold paper clips & etc..), ribbon, note cards.
m&m, thanks for the tip. I have to drive about 30 minutes to get to my Michaels and Hobby Lobby, but I will get there soon. Tip for you... I was at Dollar Tree today and saw tons of cute bug stuff. I used that theme last year. If you send me your email, I will send some documents to you.
This thread "Hit the Spot." Everyone has surely crossed their t's and dotted their i's! Hey, maybe you can wear peridot jewels ! OK...I'm stretching! Great job everybody!
I laugh because I have taught every age level except 4th, 5th, and K. I am now teaching 2nd. I love not having to stress about our state test: TAKS! lol I love my babies, but I really miss bigger kids.
Hey, I am teaching second grade, too and am trying to do the same theme! I visited a parent/teacher store today and found a polka dot poster to write rules on, a calendar, some trim, and I found polka dot hall passes at the Dollar Tree. I am trying to look for more things to make, though. I really liked your ideas. Can you paint your classroom? I am going to sponge paint polka dots around my walls and place polka dot wall clings on my windows.
I can't paint, but it sounds really cute. I posted pictures of what I have done so far in another post. Do a search of dots on this board and you will find quite a few posts from different people.
