Units of Study Gr.3

I just looked for the first time at what Miss Anderson had done for grade 1 with the units of study. Does anyone know if this has been done by someone for third grade?

Since so many materials are written for K-3, do you think it might be possible to use miss.anderson's units for 3rd grade with some modifications as necessary? This won't work if other teachers at your school are already using her units, of course.

Even if other teachers are using her notes, however, substituting mentor texts would alter them enough to use at a different grade level. Many of the teaching points are the same, after all.

Using her units might be a way to get your feet wet if you are just starting out. You could either use her notes as your plan for this year and then decide what needs to be adapted for another year, or use them as a guide to develop your own plans. Or, you could pick and choose which units to use, especially since the UOS 3-5 leaves room for developing your own units and does not include a poetry unit, for example.

Do you have the suggested Grade 3 Writing Calendar for units from Lucy Calkins and the Teacher's College Writing Project? If not let me know, and I will post the link to it.

Calendar

Here you go. I think you have to go to the annual seminar or be an affiliated school to get their latest calendar. They may have revised it since this one, but it is still fairly recent. Hopefully it will be helpful.

You'll find the suggested calendar of units on page 5, and details for each unit following that. It isn't exactly day-to-day minilessons, but it's a place to start.

Good luck!

thanks to tangolily for the resource. I was looking for 2nd grade so when I pulled up the third grade, then changed it in the address bar from a 3 to a 2, I got the second grade. Again thanks

Are you all sure these are for 3rd grade? They seem rather primary.
