Beach-ball fun

Clip to ScrapBook #1

This is an idea that I got from PT a few years ago. I did it a couple of years ago but this year was the most fun. I found beach-balls at the dollar store that were yellow with a smilie face -- just like this

I used a sharpie and wrote a student's name on the bottom of each ball. I had each student blow up their beachball and let them pick a sharpie from my bin (I have a class set of black and a couple of multicoloured sets). The kids had a great time trading beachballs and signing autographs. I will try to attach a picture. (oh, I hung them from the ceiling since school was not over for 3 more days.)

If they were done with getting everyone's signature, I had them come back to the carpet and personalize their beachballs with facial features, our school name, grade, year, etc.

Too cute!!!

I had a mom this year who went out and bought 1 plastic ball (the kind you get at Walmart in the big bins) for each kid. She handed them out on the last day of school, and the kids autographed them and had a blast playing with them in the school gym (it rained on our last day).

I LOVE your idea, though! I will have to keep my eye out for smiley balls.

Beach Balls

I did this too only I used regular beach balls. The kids really loved it. We moved all of the tables in the room and sat in a big circle. The students blew up their beach balls and we passed them around the circle so they could sign them. I'm sure I got the idea from PT at some point!

Your idea is really cute! I was looking at the pictures of the balls and started cracking up at the last one! It looks like little Spencer has a cause: Free Tibet. Amazing!!!

He can tell you anything about the history of the world and why wars were fought, and the major leaders of the past. It does not matter what topic we are discussing (could be even a math topic), he can relate it to some interesting world event.

I did this at the end of the year too. I ordered balls from Oriental Trading and wrote the student name and their "award" on it. I cam up with personal awards for each of them and we had our own little private award ceremony on the last day of school. I had awards like Most Likely to be Late, Most Likely to be Hiding Under a Hoodie, Quietest Girl with the Biggest Voice...etc. It was a ton of fun and the kids were so excited about their awards!

"I will have to keep my eye out for smiley balls."

Just had to tell you... this made my day!! (I guess my mind is in the gutter.)
I can only imagine the shock and horror some pitiful internet prowler will have when his search for "smiley balls" leads to a teacher's website! :0)

Thanks for sharing this great idea. They are so cute and a great keepsake for the kids. Have to file this idea away in my brain for the end of the year.
