bugs and insect theme

Okay - I've decided on this as my theme - I am having some live insects in the room this year also. I will use the following titles? around the room -
buggy for bugs
caught being good (with nets) for behavior

I don't exactly have a good title or idea to make a job chart. Last year I did monkeys and I enlarged a monkey hanging on a branch. On each arm/leg/branch I put a banana with the jobs. I rotated their small monkeys around the bananas. SO...I am willing to make something if I could get an idea.

Also I need a title for my newsletter. (Last year's was Monkey Tales).
If anybody has used bugs before I would love to hear what else you did.
Thanks sooo much!

lunch bugs

I take small sized bug pictures (mini- accents), add a magnetic strip on the back. Students move them to either hot/cold lunch- I have to have a daily lunch count. I ask my students, "Did you move your lunch bug?"-

Bug Job Chart

What about "We Each Carry Our Own Load" (or something like that) and have ants carrying leaves. You could put the jobs on the ants (black ants with paint pen so it shows up) and kids' names on the leaves. Then move the leaves around.

Ideas

The ant idea is so cute for your job chart. I'd use a red and white tablecloth for the background too.
How about bees for your newsletter- "What's the Buzz" or "News from the Busy Bees in Hive _____ (Room number).
You could keep track of shared books by making an enormous centipede, adding a leg for each book.
Good luck!

a song

Our kdg. teacher has a song for her bug unit.
Sing it to the tune "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes".

Head and thorax, abdomen, abdomen.
Head and thorax, abdomen, abdomen.
Two eyes, two antennae, and a pair of curly wings,
head and thorax, abdomen, abdomen.

Contact a local university, or a nearby farming co-op or seed business. For example, we have Pioneer seeds and Becks Hybrids. Get an entomologist to come share. It's free and the kids LOVE it.

I am doing a bug theme also...ladybugs, ants, butterflies, caterpillars, and bees.

I'm calling the newsletter The Weekly Buzz.

For behavior, I'm doing A Garden of Good Behavior. I am putting up a flower garden bulletin board. As children earn good behavior, a bug cutout with their name is added to the garden. At the end of a specified amount of time, kids with a certain amount of bugs in the garden get an award.

I have the Cricut machine and I used the cartridge Walk in My Garden a lot. You can tie flowers into this theme so easily. And the cartridge made some cute bug cutouts. My room is going to look great. I can't wait to see it all come together.
