Masters + 30

I am thinking about earning my + 30. I have my Masters. I would like to take courses on line (distancew education). Does anyone have any experiences with distance education courses? Which ones are reputable and acceptable by state education departments? Which have reasonable costs?

Also, do you have to choose a "major" when you are pursuing your 30 hours? For example, I am interested in literacy, so could all of my 30 hours be literacy courses?

Thanks

One of my friends got her entire 30 hours online through the same university where she got her BA and masters. Hers is a media specialist degree. She had to go to campus once, maybe twice for each class, and the rest was online. She even had a baby during the time she took a class!

What does the +30 mean? I got my masters degree then went back to school for an Ed.S degree. Is that the same type thing? I went to the university in town, but I have a friend who is going through Walden I think. She enjoys hers and chose a masters in psychology. I dont know if they will pay her masters pay in education though... Ive told her to check that out a thousand times. Nova Southeastern University has a masters and a specialist for education majors called Brain Smart: Teaching and Learning. I always thought that would be so cool to have a Ed.S in brain science. Seems like an exciting program.

I think you need to contact your own district/county. It's our county office that tracks and verifies credits. I also know there were some online questionable programs that didn't qualify.
Best to get the info right from your place to be sure

Also, your +30 is probably just credits above your masters and don't need to be a specific program since you're not earning a degree.

It's called a Rank I degree in Kentucky. It's basically a second masters degree.

In my district, earning 30 hours above your master's degree gives you a step up in salary.

Thanks for all the replies. I look forward to any other info.

I have a co-worker that got his master online through Pheonix and I was on the hiring team for him to be our asst. P. but our boss said Pheonix is not that reputable. Where's a good reputable place to get your masters. Good Luck with the +30.

I did many hours on line. Most of my PhD program thought the local university is on line! Check at your local university or college!
