Cute Welcome Phrases!
Old 07-20-2008, 07:03 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I thought it would be neat to state as many welcome back phrases as we can. I'm always looking for new ones. I mean the phrases that you might title a bulletin board that has cut-outs with the kids names/pictures on them.

Last year, I did "In 4th grade, we're all an important piece of the puzzle" and had the kids names and pictures on puzzle pieces (die-cuts).

I've also seen "You'll flip over who's flopping into ____ grade." with flip flops.

I'm doing a science lab theme in my hallway. Individual beakers and test tubes will have students names and pictures on them. Then one large vial will have everyone's name in a sparkling concoction. The title is..."I've formulated a fabulous group of fifth graders!"

I made a large apple tree from brown construction paper and put their pics on die cut apples of all different colours. The heading was "These are the apples of my eye."

Welcome Phrases
Old 07-20-2008, 09:12 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #6

Last year I decorated my door with "What a "grape" bunch of new faces!" I made a huge bunch of grapes out of purple construction paper cut into circles. Then I made smiley faces on each grape & wrote the kids name underneath it. I put a stem & 2 leaves (also out of construction paper). At the bottom of the door, under the bunch of grapes it said "Welcome to Ms. _______'s Class!"

The parents & kids loved it. Alternatively, you could take actual pictures of the kids and cut them into circle shapes to make your bunch of grapes with real faces. I just didn't have time to do all that the first week of school.

Crayons-Colorful World
Old 07-20-2008, 09:42 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #7

I usually have some sort of door decoration that includes every student's name.
---------------------------------------------------
"Welcome to the colorful world of Fourth Grade"
- Cut out crayon shapes as the border, student names on pre-printed 'crayon box' stationery shapes.

Poem-
CRAYONS...
We could learn a lot from crayons;
Some are sharp.
Some are pretty.
Some are dull.
Some have weird names.
And all are different colors...
but they all have to learn
to live in the same box.
-----------------------------------------------
"Reaching for the Stars in ____ Grade"
Student names on pre-printed 'star' stationery shapes.
-----------------------------------------------
This one is commonly used:
"Welcome to the 'Bunch'!" with student names on circles formed as a bunch of grapes.
----------------------------------------------
"Flying high in ____ grade"
Use with kite shapes or balloon shapes

In first grade, I had their names on star cutouts and the board read:
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,
I wished for you-- And Here You Are!"

I've done... Look who's buzzing into 1st grade. I made a huge hive out of brown poster board and had little bee cut outs with their names.

I've also done... Special delivery into Kindergarten. I made a mail box (poster board again) that had the door open and created a little envelope template on my computer and put their names on the envelope and had them falling out of mailbox and all around it.

I've also done... We'll be Soaring to new heights in ___ grade. I made character (looked like a clown sorta) and he was holding strings with balloons on them, some were out of his hand floating above. I had the kids names on the balloons and yarn as string.

flip flops
Old 07-21-2008, 07:39 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #15

Thanks for this post. I like the idea of the flip flops since I'm doing a beach theme this year! I am going to try to get those thin flip flops that you get when you get a pedicure and put their names on them. Maybe I can talk a salon into donating them to me?

I've used "Leaping into First Grade with frogs.
"Paws here to see who's in first grade" with paw prints with nanes on then.
"Sneaking into fist grade" with names on tennis shoes.
'Snappy first graders" with alligators.
"Quack, quack, quack Welsome Back- Momma duck with teacher's name and baby ducks with a name on each one.

Those are a few that come to mind.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Old 07-21-2008, 12:40 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #18

I covered the bulletin board with red and white checkered board cloth or plastic. I then got a cookie size sheet of cardboard and covered it with foil. I used a small margarine lid to trace circles onto a large brown paper bag. I then cut them out and used a black marker to add "chocolate chips." I added a child's name and picture (which I took at meet the teacher) on each cookie. The title was "A New Batch of Fourth Graders." Give the students their cookie when you take it down but save everything else to use again another year!

Frog doors

I made a huge lily pad that overlapped the door on both sides. I put lily flowers on it and put a big frog with my name on it and small frogs with the kids names on it! My title was "WELCOME TO OUR PAD! IT"S A HOPPIN" PLACE!
------------------------------------
One year I just put a big frog with my name and little frogs with the kids names on them and put "OUR CLASS IS FROG-TASTIC!

More 'Back to School', 'Welcome' titles
Old 07-23-2008, 09:44 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #20

Came across these in my files... probably from a teacher board, but I didn't save the person's name:
=============================== ======

"5th Grade Suits Us to a 'Tee'" - Have the kids decorate paper or real T-Shirts and hang them on a clothes line across the board.

"Putting Our Best Foot Forward in 5th Grade" - Have kids decorate sneakers

"Pencil Us in for a Great Year" - w/pencils & have kids write about what they hope to do/learn in 5th grade.

"Cooking Up a New Batch of 5th Graders" - Have the kids make recipes of themselves. (An "all about me" kind of thing, but worded like a recipe)

"Toad-ally Awesome 5th Graders" or "Leaping Into 5th Grade" - w/frogs

"Having Oceans of Fun in 5th Grade" or "Diving Into 5th Grade" - w/an ocean scene

"Wild About 5th Grade" - w/rain forest or jungle animals

"Just Buggy About 5th Grade" - w/insects

Thanks so much for the cute "flip flop" BB phrase. I was planning a flip flop board in my hallway , but this title is so much cuter than the one I had! Thanks again!
