Need help with sport bulletin board ideas

Hi all,

I am a first year teacher starting off in 5th grade. I have decided to do a sports theme and have found many GREAT ideas on here already. Thanks to all of the wonderful posts.

I have a few basic bulletin boards up already (calendar, lunch menu, etc., birthdays, "Aiming for 5th Grade Goals" with a soccer goal and balls, and a job board).

What else should I put up for the beginning of the school year, since we won't have work to put up for at least a week or so. Any who wants to share ideas, suggestions, please do!!

Thanks!

One year I did the sports theme. On the first day of school, I took a picture of each child with a bat in their hand. Turned out cute. Then I placed them on my goal board out in the hall. You could do it with a soccer ball. Just a suggestion.

I have a sports themed 5th grade classroom too. Here are some ideas that I have up in my class that might be helpful to you.

"We've Aced Our Facts" (tennis themed math fact board)
"All Star Work" (decorated with baseball theme)
AR Stadium (AR football field to track reading points)
Slam Dunk Success (basketball board for good work)
"Hole in One Work" (golf themed board to display work)
MVP (student of the week)
"We're Pitching In" (job board for student helpers)
Penalty Box (hockey themed behavior chart)

I'll see if I can get some pictures together for you... and I'll keep racking my brain to see if there is anything else I can help you with!
Good luck!

I really like some of your ideas and am thinking about doing a sports theme. I would love to see some pictures if you have them.

Is anyone doing a sports themed behavior chart/system? I want to do something but haven't figured it out yet.

I am also a fifth grade teacher and this is my second year doing a sports theme. A few bulletin boards I had were:

Shooting for Success (I had a nerf basketball net in the middle)
Our Goals (I had artificial turf w/a soccer net)

Also, around my classroom I had certain areas labeled. For example, above my desk the sign said Coach's Corner, my library area was labeled Players Playbooks and the supplies center was called Essential Equipment.

I am looking for a bulletin board to place outside my classroom welcoming my new students, any ideas?

How can they be adapted for a first grade classroom?

Ask your students to bring in photos of themselves participating in sports activities. Many students are active in various sports (baseball, basketball, football, cheerleading, etc.). For those that are not or who have not been on a "team" - take a few moments with them while they are out for PE and snap a few photos of them engaged in "teamwork" play.

I did a math facts bulletin board where the students could match baseballs to bats. Green backrground with a baseball diamond. You can put problems on bats and answers on baseballs. This could be a center or an activity to work on during inside recess or after completing work early.
