How to Choose a Strong Password

One of the best ways to protect your privacy online is to use a strong password on ALL your online accounts, including your ProTeacher account.

Avoid passwords that are easy to guess, such as single words from the dictionary, adjacent keys on the keyboard, simple strings of numbers, personal information about you that can be easily learned (birthdate, telephone number, children and pet names, etc.), common phrases, names of places, titles of books or movies; and passwords that are simply way too short.

Strong Passwords

  • are 8 characters or more in length
  • contain both letters and numbers
  • contain both lower and upper case letters

One approach to making a fairly strong yet easy to remember password is to start with two or three random and unrelated words. Example: cook windy paper. Then add some numbers and insert some capitalization: Cook25windyPaper

Do not use the same password on every website. Change your passwords periodically. On websites where it is offered, use multi-factor authentication, especially on your bank accounts and email.

To Change Your ProTeacher Password

1. Click to the 'Edit Email & Password' page.

2. Type your current ProTeacher password in the first box

3. Type your new password in the next two boxes ('New Password' and 'Confirm New Password')

4. Leave your email address as it is unless you need to update it. (Be sure to keep your email address up-to-date)

5. Click the "Save Changes" Button.

6. Finally, sign out and sign back in to test your new password. Be sure to remember your new password!

Final Note

If you forget your ProTeacher password, you can use our password reset feature to obtain a new temporary password and access your account. Be sure to keep the email address associated with your ProTeacher account up-to-date; and be sure to use a strong password on your email account.
