Let's Have Some Lesson Plans!

After 9 years of teaching 2nd grade, I have many resources, ideas and even an ocassional inspiration. I would like to share some of my ideas here. Here is a  reading lesson,  others will be added as time allows.
If you have questions concerning these lessons, please emailme.

Reading

1.  Three Bears Link Up
Materials: Copy of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears (for teacher to read)
Photo copy of the answers and questions (click this line) cut into strips
of  "A & Q."  Depending on your class size, you may need to partner
students for this activity.

This activity was specifically designed to review the tested reading
objectives for the Texas Assessmentof  Academic Skill (TAAS).
After reading a version of Golidlocks and the Three Bears, the
students are given slips of paper that have statements
and questions (in that order) on them. The first student reads his/her
question only. The person who has the answer to that question on
his slip of paper reads it and then asks the question on his paper.
Eventually the last question should be answerable by the first student
as he reads the statement on his paper.

Hope you enjoy this lesson, it can be used for a variety of subjects, math (with answers and problems),science or social studies concepts.

Here is a little ditty to help students remember the three forms of water (printablecopy here)
(Tune: 3 Blind Mice)

Three Forms of Water

Three forms of water, three forms of water.
See what they are, see what they are!
The first is liquid, it's water we drink,
and swim in and wash in and run from a sink.
If you fall in it, you're wet in a wink!
Three forms of water.Three forms of water.

Three forms of water, three forms of water.
See what they are, see what they are!
Ice is a solid, it's cold and it's hard.
Snow is another kind out in the yard.
It gets very slippery,so please be on guard!
Ice is a solid. Ice is a solid.

Three forms of water, three forms of water.
See what they are, see what they are!
Vapor's a gas, it's wispy and thin
You can see it in steamand when we're fogged in,
If it comes from hot cocoa, we all wear a grin!
Vapor is a gas. Vapor is a gas.

Down by the minus sign,

I'm gonna subtract those numbers there-
Down by the minus sign,
Down by the minus sign,
Down by the minus sign,
I'm gonna subtract those numbers there-
Down by the minus sign!

I'm gonna write down the difference there-
Down by the "equals" sign,
Down by the "equals" sign,
Down by the "equals" sign,
I'm gonna write down the difference there-
Down by the "equals" sign!

Computer Chant!  Here is a chant or song written by a talented teacher in my district. It is used to teach the basic parts of a computer to the younger students. If  you choose to sing it, think "Adams Family" but make it fit the words.
Here is a printable copy.

And the  mouse hangs out on the mouse-pad!

The mouse-pad sits next to the keyboard.

Long keyboard (tickety tack) [pretend to be typing]

Keyboard talks to the brain box.

Brain box thinks (CPU!) [finger on temple]

Brain box shows us on the monitor.

Monitor shows (whew, whee) [wave hands]
Monitor shows (whew, whee) [wave hands]
Monitor shows us all we can see!
